Utility Maintenance Worker
About the role
RW Solutions is seeking a Utility Maintenance Worker to support our café and ice cream shop. The position involves maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both customers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Sweeping, mopping, and maintaining café floors.
- Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, restocking supplies, and monitoring for maintenance issues.
- Emptying trash and recycling bins, transporting waste, and maintaining clean dumpster zones.
- Performing simple fixes like tightening fixtures, replacing light bulbs, patching wall scuffs, or adjusting door hardware.
- Wiping down non-food-contact equipment and keeping maintenance tools organized.
- Sweeping entryways, maintaining sidewalks or patio seating areas, and removing debris.
- Reporting hazards, monitoring for spills, and ensuring walkways remain clear and safe.
- Tracking cleaning and maintenance supplies and notifying management when inventory is low.
- Assisting with quick cleanup needs, moving furniture, or setting up spaces as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in janitorial, custodial, or utility cleaning roles.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, safe chemical use, and sanitation standards.
- Comfortable working around customers in a friendly, professional manner.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if applicable).

Physical & Environmental Demands
- Lifting & Carrying: Regularly lift, move, and carry cleaning supplies, trash bags, equipment, and materials weighing 30 - 40 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs during heavier tasks.
- Extended Standing & Walking: Spend most of the shift on your feet, walking between café, ice cream shop, storage areas, and outdoor spaces.
- Bending, Kneeling, & Reaching: Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, stretch, and reach overhead to clean surfaces, access supplies, and perform minor repairs.
- Repetitive Motions: Perform repetitive cleaning motions such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, wiping, and trash handling throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity: Use hands and fingers to operate cleaning tools, tighten fixtures, replace bulbs, and handle small maintenance tasks.
- Pushing & Pulling: Push cleaning carts, move trash bins, and reposition light furniture or equipment as needed.
- Indoor & Outdoor Work Conditions: Work performed in both indoor café/ice cream shop environments and outdoor areas such as entryways, sidewalks, patios, and waste disposal zones.
- Exposure to Cleaning Chemicals: Regular handling of cleaning agents, disinfectants, and sanitizers following safety guidelines and PPE requirements.
- Temperature Variations: Exposure to warm kitchen areas, cooler storage rooms, and outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Noise Levels: Work around typical café noise such as espresso machines, blenders, customer conversations, and background music.
- Odors & Waste Handling: Occasional exposure to food waste, cleaning product odors, and trash during removal and disposal tasks.
- Slip, Trip, & Fall Awareness: Work in environments where spills, wet floors, or clutter may occur, requiring constant attention to safety.
