Utility Inspection Technician (Indoor Inspections)

Responsibilities

• Enter commercial and residential facilities to check gas meters and pipes for leaks and corrosion
• Perform visual inspection and ensure all required paperwork/data are completed
• Report to respective work area on time at the start of each shift
• Identify any abnormal operating conditions while on-site
• Accurately fill out all forms associated with the inspection visit (may be electronic or paper)
• Overtime may be required
• May work weekends

Requirements

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed
• Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs
• Proficiency with technology
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
• Valid driver's license and a safe driving record required
• Ability to use simple hand tools
• Ability to read a utility map

Qualifications

• Previous outdoor experience is a plus
• Customer service experience is a plus

Pay

• Starting pay: $24–$32/hr, depending on experience
• New technicians moved to $25/hr once fully qualified and working independently in the field
• $26/hr after reaching first anniversary date

Schedule

• Daytime, full-time positions
• Overtime may be required
• May require working weekends
• Instructor-led training provided
• Currently hiring throughout Somerville, Cambridge, Hyde Park, MA areas
