Utility Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

The Utility Heavy Equipment Excavator is responsible for constructing and repairing underground distribution systems, primarily involving de-energized lines.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, trenchers, and mini-excavators proficiently
• Perform excavations, material identification, and underground utility line pulling
• Follow construction standards, safety protocols, and received instructions
• Assist in setting up equipment, shoring, and working in confined spaces
• Participate in safety testing and maintain equipment in good condition

Qualifications

• High school diploma, technical training, or equivalent experience with mechanical aptitude
• Advanced blueprint reading and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, excavation techniques, and underground infrastructure
• Proficiency with communication tools, industry programs, and safety equipment
• Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds, perform overhead work, and work outdoors in various conditions
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; CDL A preferred
• Ability to travel within the service territory, operate both automatic and manual vehicles, and work in demanding physical environments
