Utility and Maintenance Superintendent

Job Summary

The City of David City is seeking an experienced Utility and Maintenance Superintendent to manage the safety and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, as well as oversee the maintenance of the city's infrastructure, including streets, parks, swimming pools, RV campgrounds, recreation grounds, and city lots.

Responsibilities

• Manage the safety and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems
• Implement record-keeping procedures for routine and emergency testing
• Control maintenance needs for the street, parks, swimming pool, RV campgrounds, recreation grounds, city lots, building codes, initiating cleaning, painting, mowing, and repairs as necessary
• Operate light to moderately heavy and complex construction-type equipment and machinery, such as motor graders, front-end loaders, backhoes, and similar equipment
• Oversee the maintenance of the tree dump and various other activities, including servicing equipment, mowing and spraying ditches, and controlling mosquitoes
• Work closely with various departments within the City of David City, committees, and entities under the City of David City and the surrounding area

Requirements

• High school graduate plus two (2) years technical training or the equivalent
• Grade II or Grade III Water Operators Certification
• Ability to work with the public in solving problems; to work with other city employees; and to direct others in assisting
• Management experience is helpful

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass pre-employment and drug screening
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license and a Class B CDL
• Must be able to obtain the appropriate Class grades in Water Operator and Wastewater Operator permits
