NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
An employee in this class normally works as part of a crew performing various repairs and maintenance tasks. The complexity of work involves cutting and installing sewer pipes that are damaged or broken; safely operating motor vehicles and equipment; and testing, repairing, and maintaining components of the wastewater distribution and collections system.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction work.
- Ability to learn the skills required in the repair and maintenance of wastewater distribution and collections systems.
- Ability to learn how to prepare trenches in accordance with safety regulations and construction standards.
- Ability to acquire knowledge in the operation of vehicles, power equipment, tools, and testing devices used to operate wastewater facilities and structures.
- Ability to learn how to read blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to use a computer and apply relevant software applications.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and materials.
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of selection.
- Ability to work in hazardous conditions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school;
- Six (6) or more months experience in repair, maintenance, and construction work;
- A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
- Experience with the operation of a combination jet/vacuum truck.
- Knowledge and/or experience in the maintenance, repair and testing of wastewater system components.
NOTES
- This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Therefore, candidates will be required to obtain a CDL with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
- Longevity pay is available based on years of service.
- This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance and Alcohol testing.
