About the role
Kinsley Construction is seeking self-motivated, dependable, hard-working Paving Operators/Paving Laborers and Concrete Finishers to join their paving Utilities patching crews. This position is based out of their Ephrata, PA Office.
Responsibilities
- Paving Operator:
- Operate asphalt pavers, rollers and related heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
- Read and interpret plans, grades and job specifications.
- Absorb and assist with set up and break down of paving equipment as needed.
- Support other crew members during paving operations when required.
- Paving Laborer:
- Shovel and lute asphalt.
- Take and understand instructions from crew leaders.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of paving.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Concrete Finisher:
- Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
- Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch, depth, and aligned accurately.
- Install reinforcing rebar or mesh wire to strengthen the concrete.
- Spread, level and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand, or power screed and float.
- Maintain a watchful eye over the curing process to ensure a durable, smooth and uniform finish.
- Produce rough concrete surface using broom.
- Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
- Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete and move chute to direct concrete.
- Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical certification throughout employment.
- Ability to work in a crew-based environment.
- Previous experience operating asphalt pavers or other heavy equipment such as rollers, skid steers and graders.
- Punctuality and dependability are required, must have transportation to get to assigned job sites.
- Previous asphalt paving experience is preferred.
- Physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Valid PA driver's license and reliable transportation required.
