USDA-ARS Fellowship in Intracellular Bacteria

Research Project

Developing improved intervention strategies for preventing tuberculosis and brucellosis in domestic livestock and wildlife. Research goals include developing improved vaccines and diagnostics using molecular (CRISPR and cloning), microbiological, immunological, bioinformatical (genomics and transcriptomics) and other techniques. This will involve both in vivo and in vitro research and include handling zoonotic bacteria.

Learning Objectives

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to learn to: (a) sample domestic livestock and wildlife; and (b) conduct research under biolevel 3 conditions.

Participant Stipend

$87,000 - $91,000 annually

Qualification Requirements

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a doctoral degree in the relevant fields. The degree must have been received within the past five years or be anticipated to be received by 10/31/2026.
