About the role
The Staff Software Engineer will lead the design and development of scalable solutions for Walmart's returns management systems. This role involves working closely with US stores and eCommerce businesses to enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance systems for returns-related technology solutions.
- Own the end-to-end architecture and development process for returns-related technology solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver impactful software solutions that enhance workflows and customer experiences.
- Drive the adoption of agile engineering practices and DevOps methodologies across the team for continuous improvement and product delivery.
- Analyze complex business and technical requirements and provide recommendations to improve return processes, using cutting-edge technologies like AI/ML, cloud native architectures, etc.
- Advocate and drive best practices in engineering excellence, including documentation, testing, code reviews, and monitoring.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and growth across the team.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with expertise in building scalable, distributed systems.
- Proven expertise in Java, Python, or other modern programming languages and frameworks (Spring Boot, Node.js, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure, or similar, and proven experience in developing cloud-native solutions.
- Expertise in microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
- Experience in SQL/NoSQL databases like MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
- Proficiency in containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in ambiguous challenges while delivering efficient and scalable solutions.
- Knowledge of retail or e-commerce return processes (preferred).
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Knowledge of creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
