About the team
Our team advances Walmart’s e-commerce search backend by applying machine learning and advanced algorithms to deliver highly relevant product results. Focused on enhancing the customer journey, the team ensures a smooth transition from intent to purchase. Leveraging expertise in data science, natural language processing, and large language models, the team continuously improves search accuracy and user experience. Collaborating across functions, it supports scalable model deployment and data pipeline development, driving optimized business outcomes through innovative, data-driven solutions.
Responsibilities
- Identify and source relevant data from multiple business domains, ensuring data quality and fitness for purpose.
- Develop and apply data strategies aligned with business objectives, focusing on data management, accessibility, and scalability.
- Design, validate, and tune predictive models using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to solve complex problems.
- Create clear and impactful data visualizations tailored to stakeholder needs, collaborating with UX/UI teams as required.
- Translate business requirements into analytical solutions, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
- Deploy and monitor models in production, ensuring performance and scalability.
- Write, test, and document code to support data science initiatives and maintain solution integrity.
Requirements
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years’ experience in an analytics-related field.
- Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years’ experience in an analytics-related field.
- Option 3: 6 years’ experience in an analytics or related field.
Qualifications
- Data science, machine learning, optimization models.
- PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics.
- Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
- Using open source frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility.
Skills
- Strong expertise in predictive analytics, machine learning algorithms, and statistical hypothesis testing.
- Proficiency in Python programming and data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, or Tableau.
- Experience with data strategy, including data quality standards, governance, and scalable data storage solutions.
- Ability to assess, validate, and tune models using best practices and relevant evaluation metrics.
- Skilled in translating complex business problems into data-driven solutions with advanced analytical modeling techniques.
- Knowledge of deploying and monitoring models in production environments to ensure performance and scalability.
- Effective communication skills to present data insights and guide junior team members.

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 – $264,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and may include stock.
