The Senior Manager, Software Engineering leads platform-level execution of software and AI/ML systems, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and roadmap milestones. This role oversees infrastructure, tooling, and frameworks that support scalable, secure development while driving full lifecycle management across multiple teams. The position champions DevOps practices, cloud cost optimization, and technical excellence, fostering collaboration across engineering, product, and data teams. By mentoring engineers and managing complex initiatives, this leader ensures high system availability, innovation, and continuous improvement aligned with business objectives and operational goals.

What you'll do

  • Lead platform-level execution of software and AI/ML systems, ensuring alignment with domain priorities and roadmap milestones.
  • Oversee shared infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks to support scalable, secure, and reusable development.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, promoting DevOps architecture and CI/CD best practices.
  • Manage cloud cost optimization and enhance automation, telemetry, and tooling to improve operational efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and ensure adherence to coding, security, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define priorities, track milestones, and deliver complex technical initiatives on time.
  • Establish and monitor operational and engineering metrics to drive continuous improvement and technical excellence.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience leading platform engineering and software development lifecycle across multiple teams.
  • Strong expertise in DevOps architecture, CI/CD practices, and cloud financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical initiatives with effective stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proficiency in software architecture, system design, and integration for scalable, secure platforms.
  • Skill in mentoring engineers and fostering technical excellence through code reviews and testing.
  • Excellent project and capacity management skills with a focus on milestone tracking and delivery.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to evolving technologies and business needs.

About the team: The team develops identity and security services for Sam’s Club, delivering secure and efficient software solutions that protect member information. Leading engineers, the team applies Agile methodologies to drive adaptive planning and rapid delivery. Collaborating closely with program and product managers, they prioritize engineering efforts to meet business goals. The team manages multiple projects by identifying operational needs, removing obstacles, and supporting continuous learning. Focused on quality and innovation, they ensure scalable, maintainable systems that enhance the shopping experience while promoting technical excellence and stakeholder alignment across cross-functional groups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
