About the role

The Principal UX Designer leads the development and enhancement of user experience strategies by conducting comprehensive research, including user interviews and journey mapping, to inform design decisions. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align design solutions with business objectives. The position involves driving prototyping, usability testing, and iterative improvements to deliver intuitive, user-centered interfaces.

What you'll do

  • Lead user research initiatives including interviews, surveys, and site visits to gather actionable insights for enhancing user experience strategies.
  • Develop and present user journey maps, storyboards, and data-driven design recommendations to inform product development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align UX solutions with business objectives and technical requirements.
  • Design and prototype interaction models that address complex use cases and ensure consistency across platforms.
  • Oversee usability testing and iterate designs based on user feedback and acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor and guide UX team members to foster professional growth and maintain design quality standards.

Walmart Data Ventures harnesses Walmart’s data to create enterprise products that enable merchants and suppliers to make informed decisions efficiently. As a Principal UX Designer, you will lead design efforts in strategic product areas, focusing on user-centered solutions that enhance usability and satisfaction. The team collaborates across functions and stakeholders, applying expertise in user experience, prototyping, and usability testing to deliver high impact outcomes. This role involves shaping product experiences from concept through deployment, driving innovation, and fostering cross-functional partnerships to support Walmart’s growth and operational excellence.

What you'll bring

  • Extensive expertise in user experience strategies, including user interviews, journey mapping, and contextual inquiries.
  • Proven ability to design and drive research strategies using qualitative and quantitative methods to inform design decisions.
  • Strong skills in prototyping, usability testing, and iterative design to enhance user interaction and satisfaction.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders to align UX solutions with business goals.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed interaction and visual design specifications adhering to platform guidelines.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring teams and managing complex UX projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills to influence and build consensus across range of business partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area and 5 years’ experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design certification (for example, IDEOU - Foundations in Design Thinking Certificate).
  • Driving product development in a user experience area.
  • Master's degree in UI/UX Design, Interactive and Visual Design, Product Design, or related area.
  • Related industry experience (for example, retail, supply chain, eCommerce, healthcare).
  • UI/UX, Interactive and Visual Design, Electronics Art, Multimedia Design, or related area.
  • We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Masters: Architecture, Masters: Artificial Intelligence, Masters: Business, Masters: Cognitive Science, Masters: Computer Science.
