About the role

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving delivery across multiple teams. This role requires expertise in program and risk management, technical design, and stakeholder engagement to ensure scalable, high-quality solutions. The position involves coordinating end-to-end system architecture discussions, mitigating risks, and optimizing resources to achieve strategic objectives. The incumbent fosters continuous improvement, mentors team members, and communicates effectively to align stakeholders, ensuring successful execution of technology initiatives within dynamic environments.

About the team

The Marketplace TPM team partners with Business, Product, and Engineering leaders to advance Walmart’s strategic Marketplace Trust initiatives. Positioned at the nexus of technology, product strategy, and business execution, the team leads complex programs spanning multiple organizations. Their efforts enable global Marketplace growth by ensuring cross-functional alignment, managing risks, and delivering scalable technical solutions. With a focus on strong stakeholder engagement, program management excellence, and continuous improvement, the team drives operational excellence and innovation through effective project leadership and technical design.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage goals, stage gates, and key deliverables for large-scale technical programs with multiple dependencies.
  • Secure commitments for program scopes, delivery dates, and resources while managing cross-functional dependencies.
  • Translate product requirements into technical designs and ensure robust system architecture for scalability and performance.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and proactively resolve issues to maintain program progress.
  • Lead communication with stakeholders to align priorities, share updates, and coordinate efforts across teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing scalable workflows and automation opportunities.
  • Mentor team members on best practices in program and risk management.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven ability to define and execute large-scale program plans with multiple dependencies, ensuring alignment of goals, timelines, and resources.
  • Strong technical expertise in translating product requirements into scalable system and platform designs, including cloud infrastructure and software lifecycle management.
  • Skilled in driving operational excellence through monitoring, incident management, and continuous process improvements.
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging stakeholders and delivering clear, data-driven reports and updates.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision making and impact analysis.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • Option 2: 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.

Pay

Sunnyvale, California: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Bentonville, Arkansas: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
