About the role

The AIP technician assistant provides laboratory support functions to ensure accurate, high-quality necropsy and histology study work for rodent and non-rodent safety studies. This role operates in compliance with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, animal welfare regulations, and departmental policies. The pathology data collected and processed supports candidate selection, first-in-human studies, 13-week studies, and early research and target safety investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports study set-up to prepare for necropsy and histology portions of non-GLP and GLP studies.
  • May train to fully support necropsy and histology techniques as outlined in SOPs and directed by study protocols in a structured environment.
  • Communicates with pathologists and laboratory managers to ensure proper collection, handling, and submission of specimens, as well as proper handling of all supportive documentation, including chain of custody forms for outsourced work.
  • Ensures proper use and preventative maintenance of equipment and laboratory space.
  • Ensures full traceability of work and specimens.

Requirements

  • Minimum HS degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience OR A.S. Degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Foundation in general laboratory skills and processes.
  • Understanding of standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Compliance with lab safety and personal protective equipment guidelines.
  • Able to recognize, document, and resolve data errors.
  • Able to multitask while maintaining a high level of efficiency and quality.
  • Physical ability to perform ex vivo work, wear appropriate PPE, and perform technical procedures that may require lifting, sitting, standing, walking, and bending.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A.S. Degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) proficiency.
  • Basic technical knowledge and/or skills in relevant disciplines (histology, animal science).
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technical skills:
    • Necropsy or tissue collection.
    • Histology: microtomy, tissue processing, paraffin embedding, histology slide staining techniques.
    • Experience working in a GLP lab environment.

Organizational Relationships

  • Pathology line, including Pathologists, Global AIP Lab Leader, DSRD AIP Laboratory Managers, and AIP scientists and Technicians.
  • Global Pathology Quality Control Team and Global Pathology Slide Scanning Lead.

Pay

Pay rate range: 18 - 22 USD hourly. The actual pay rate will be based on skills, competencies, experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This role is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements.
