US Military and Veteran Senior Data Center Support Services Technician

This is a 24/7/365 on-site position that includes day/night shifts, weekend and holiday work, and occasional travel based on business requirements. Biometric data processing for identity verification and access control is required.

About the role

Identifies opportunities for others to replace or upgrade server components. Validates cabling, checks network environment build, and ensures connectivity is established. Monitors and assigns work in a ticketing environment, mentoring less experienced technicians or implementing technical solutions. Trains advanced fix and repair techniques aligned with corporate objectives and adheres to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and methods of procedures (MOPs) for operational Data Center Change Control processes. Acts as a technical liaison for technical and non-technical teams, providing subject matter expertise to identify and resolve resiliency, reliability, and availability risks.

Responsibilities

  • Datacenter Services Operations – Break/Fix and Hardware Maintenance:
    • Identifies opportunities for team members to work with servers and server components, ensuring efficient performance throughout the hardware lifecycle.
    • Guides and coaches less experienced technicians on best practices for power distribution units, replacement hardware, and troubleshooting without disturbing critical infrastructure.
  • Datacenter Services Operations – Network Configuration, Installation, and Augmentation:
    • Instructs less experienced technicians on best practices for implementing network communications and solutions, signing off on client configurations.
    • Validates cabling, checks network environment builds, and verifies device connectivity and error-free operation.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
    • Monitors and assigns work in a ticketing environment, mentoring less experienced technicians or implementing technical solutions to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
    • Identifies and escalates trends, documenting steps or resolutions for maintaining environments.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Oversees adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs), ensuring compliance with site rules, colocation vendor rules, and customer site requirements.
    • Upholds security procedures, conducts functional testing, and ensures compliance with health and safety guidelines, including personal protective equipment and site access.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Trains advanced fix and repair techniques aligned with corporate objectives and adheres to SOPs and MOPs for Data Center Change Control.
    • Identifies repeating problems or trends, escalates issues to senior peers or external experts, and engages the global team on local issues.
  • Collaboration, Vendor Relations, and Leadership:
    • Leads collaboration with project teams and colocation partners to test and validate electrical/mechanical systems and coordinate site utility requirements.
    • Acts as a technical liaison, providing subject matter expertise to resolve resiliency, reliability, and availability risks.
    • Ensures contractors and vendors deliver quality services and meet SLAs.
    • Contributes to quality assurance through process creation and training of less experienced peers.
  • Planning & Execution:
    • Completes complex or ambiguous tasks with limited instructions and provides guidance on shifting priorities and resources.
  • Collaboration & Partnership:
    • Collaborates across teams to deliver impactful work and supports critical team objectives.
    • Leverages advanced understanding of business, stakeholder, and customer needs to build partnerships.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Develops and shares procedures to identify and resolve routine or non-routine issues, serving as an escalation point.
    • Collects and reviews data to troubleshoot complex errors.
  • Continuous Learning:
    • Actively seeks to build knowledge, learn new skills, and stay current with trends and best practices.
    • Seeks feedback and advanced training to improve skills.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Recommends and implements improvements to enhance the efficiency of complex processes, protocols, and workflows.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of server, storage, and network hardware systems and components.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Strong team player with a strong interest in learning new data center concepts and technology.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb a 9 ft ladder.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • IT Hardware Concepts knowledge (RAID, Linux/Unix, CLI, etc.).
  • Good computer skills and ability to stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts.
  • Experience with mainstream ticketing systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Client experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and/or Experience:
    • 5 years of experience in client-facing, direct customer support, data center, or related field, or
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 4 years of experience in client-facing, direct customer support, data center, or related field, or
    • Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Center Operations, or related field and 3 years of experience in client-facing, direct customer support, data center, or related field.
  • Job Skills:
    • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring on complex projects.
    • Incident Management and Response: Demonstrated ability to respond to and resolve incidents quickly to maintain business continuity.
    • Cross-Functional/Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and regions to achieve shared business goals.
    • IT Infrastructure/Server Troubleshooting Experience: 3 years of experience in IT infrastructure, data center services, or server administration.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 3 years of experience in hyperscale cloud environments.
    • Data Center or Cloud Industry Certifications.

Pay

Hiring range in USD from $27.64 - $56.83 per hour; from $57,500 - $118,200 per year. Oracle maintains broad salary ranges to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations.
