Urgent Care Medical Director

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Urgent Care Medical Director to lead the clinical operations of a busy, patient-focused urgent care practice. This leadership role combines direct patient care with administrative oversight, with approximately 75% clinical responsibilities and 25% administrative duties. The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, supervising clinical staff, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, supporting provider development, and driving continuous quality improvement within the Urgent Care department. This position offers the opportunity to lead a collaborative healthcare team while maintaining an active clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based urgent care services while ensuring excellent patient outcomes and adherence to established clinical standards.
• Lead, supervise, and support physicians, advanced practice providers (NPs/PAs), medical assistants, and medical scribes to promote effective clinical operations and team performance.
• Oversee departmental operations by managing provider schedules, coordinating onboarding and training, leading provider meetings, and supporting recruitment and hiring efforts.
• Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation by monitoring chart completion, conducting chart audits, and maintaining continuity and quality of patient care.
• Drive quality improvement initiatives by evaluating clinical workflows, identifying opportunities for practice enhancement, and implementing best practices across the department.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and all applicable federal, state, and organizational regulations while collaborating with leadership to ensure staff competency and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience is required.
• Clinical experience as a practicing physician.
• Experience providing patient care in an urgent care, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or similar outpatient setting.
• Previous leadership or management experience supervising physicians and clinical staff.
• Experience with provider scheduling, quality assurance, staff development, and clinical operations.
• Experience using Athena EMR or similar electronic medical record systems.

Licenses & Certifications

• Active, unrestricted State DE Physician License.
• Board Certified in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
• Current DEA registration.
• Current BLS certification.
• Must maintain all required state and federal licenses, certifications, and credentials.
