Location: Banner Health Urgent Care – East Valley, Chandler, Arizona

Status: Full-Time (Three 12-hour shifts per week)

About the Role

The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within Banner Health Urgent Care. This position assists healthcare providers with clinical procedures, patient assessments, and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations. The role requires flexibility and professionalism in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to float to other Banner Health Urgent Care clinics in the surrounding area as needed.

Clinics may include: Alma School & Queen Creek, Gilbert & Queen Creek, Gary & Empire, Higley & Ray, Higley & Queen Creek, Ironwood & Ocotillo, and Pecos & Higley.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for exams and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, and chief complaints; documents pain scores as appropriate.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to clinicians.
  • Assists providers with exams, minor in-office procedures, phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs; acts as a chaperone when needed.
  • Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Prioritizes and manages patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinates patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, or ancillary treatments.
  • Communicates test results to patients and acts as a resource to clinicians for optimal care.
  • Administers medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provides clerical support, including patient notifications, documentation, and maintaining complete medical records (labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records).
  • Ensures accurate and timely billing information for patient encounters.
  • Maintains a clean and functional environment, including disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines and manufacturer recommendations for handling hazardous substances and equipment maintenance.
  • Orders and stocks supplies, manages medication ordering, and handles expired medications/equipment and recalls.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with internal and external customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
  • Completes onboarding, orientation, and simulation training as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required (e.g., RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA).
  • BLS certification required.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively.

Employees working in behavioral health clinical settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it throughout employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with office medical procedures, treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
