Location: Banner Health Urgent Care – Zone 9 (Scottsdale, Arizona). Float to other Banner Urgent Care clinics within the surrounding area as needed.

About the role

This position supports clinicians and nursing staff in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within Banner Health Urgent Care. The Medical Assistant assists with clinical procedures, patient assessments, and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations. The role requires flexibility, professionalism, and compassion in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exams and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, and chief complaints; document pain scores as appropriate.
  • Report changes in patient condition to clinicians.
  • Assist providers with exams, minor in-office procedures (e.g., blood pressure, respiration, heart rate, temperature), phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs; act as a chaperone when needed.
  • Use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Prioritize and manage patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, or ancillary medical treatments.
  • Communicate test results to patients.
  • Act as a resource to clinicians to optimize patient care.
  • Administer medications per established policies and procedures or as directed.
  • Provide clerical support, including patient notifications, documentation, and maintaining complete medical records (labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records).
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing information for patient encounters.
  • Maintain a clean, functional environment by disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas following OSHA guidelines and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs; order and stock supplies.
  • Manage medication-related tasks, including ordering and handling expired medications/equipment and recalls.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
  • Complete onboarding, orientation, and simulation training as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA) with proof of current membership from a recognized certifying body (e.g., AMT, AAMA, NHA, NCCT). Certification must meet Meaningful Use requirements.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and organized.
  • For positions in behavioral health settings serving children: Possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintained throughout employment; signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with office medical procedures, treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.

Schedule

Full-time (three 12-hour shifts per week). Variable schedule; must be available to work any day of the week, including weekends.
