The Upper School Faculty are a collaborative and forward-thinking community of education professionals who create real-world, project-based experiences to help students connect content in a relevant and impactful way. This team models inquisitiveness, nurturing, flexibility, and creativity while customizing and personalizing learning for each course. They are united in using an inquiry-based model and a mastery approach to teaching.

About the Role

Mount Vernon School seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper School World Language teacher (Spanish). Candidates should be passionate about world languages and cultures to promote the mindsets and dispositions of an inclusive community focused on global citizenship. Versatility, collaboration, and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams/clubs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 9-12 Spanish using a variety of research-based and innovative teaching methods
  • Create well-planned nine-week units with a focus on problem-solving and application
  • Design differentiated lessons to meet the needs of each student in the classroom
  • Connect real-world learning with world language, both in instruction and practice
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and comprehensive records of student performance and progress, including communication with students and families
  • Care for and nurture the social and emotional needs of each student
  • Maintain an organized, inviting, and student-centered learning environment
  • Participate in duties such as lunch supervision, enrichment, and carpool, as well as other assigned responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong character, a drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting students' learning and social-emotional needs

  • Understanding of competency-based assessment and mastery approach to learning
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Mac/Apple OS

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Spanish, Linguistics, World Languages, or a related field
  • Cultural background or experience in Latin/Hispanic contexts
  • Teaching experience
  • Proficiency with technological tools and platforms
