About the Role
Join GDIT as a UNIX/Linux OS Administrator and contribute to critical outcomes for complex government, defense, and intelligence projects. Your work will support USSTRATCOM, a Combatant Command responsible for strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, and enterprise IT services essential to national security. You will play a key role in providing 24/7 IT services and network support for NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS, and SAP/SAR environments through the SCITLS program.
Responsibilities
- Perform systems administration for enterprise Linux/Unix solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix operating systems.
- Analyze and resolve problems associated with the operating system’s servers, hardware, applications, and software.
- Monitor system performance and ensure compliance with security standards.
- Evaluate availability of all server resources and perform activities for Linux servers.
- Configure and deploy virtual machines and provide backup for all configuration procedures.
- Maintain and monitor all patch releases, design patch installation strategies, and ensure systems meet program standards.
- Provide Tier 2 and 3 troubleshooting support, interfacing with end users and other technical teams.
- Conduct Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance assessments, harden Linux systems according to DoD standards, and ensure adherence to security policies.
- Manage firewall rules (firewalld, iptables) and secure configurations of SSH, PAM, and sudo policies.
- Perform incident response, root-cause analysis, and collaborate with networking, storage, and security teams.
Requirements
- BS degree; may be substituted for additional years of experience.
- 3+ years of IT/DoD configuration management experience.
- Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
- ITIL 4 Foundation certification within 9 months of start; GFACT, CND, Security+, or GSEC certification.
- US Citizenship required.
Skills
- Strong experience with Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
- Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or cloud-based VMs.
- Understanding of security hardening standards (DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks).
- OS patching and vulnerability remediation.
- SELinux or AppArmor experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills (translating technical issues).
- Ability to escalate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $112,840 - $120,750, based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
