Unix Administrator
Position Summary
The UNIX administrator is responsible for all levels of administration across a large-scale complex of Linux systems. Candidate must be accomplished in all areas of analysis, design, installation, implementation, configuration, tuning, operation, and security of mid-to-large-tier Redhat/Oracle Linux systems.
Candidate must perform high level analysis of RHEL/Oracle Linux systems and applications software requirements, processes, and characteristics for the purpose of assuring efficient and effective software design and operation. Interacts with teams responsible for the development of Linux based operating system applications. Evaluates new system and application requirements regarding impact to the RHEL/Oracle Linux operating system environment.
- Performs installation of Linux and/or client server operating system software and hardware including OS supporting tools and interface support.
- Performs problem determination, on Redhat/Oracle Linux based systems and performs resolution.
- Maintains patches, intrusion detection, and hardening processes in conjunction with policies and guidelines.
- Work with Security team on vulnerability detection, protection, and correction.
- Evaluates specifications and features of new products, performing product comparisons, feasibility and cost benefit analysis, and performance and compatibility testing.
- Reviews customer business requirements and makes technical recommendations regarding software/hardware to meet business needs.
- Controls consistency and integrity monitoring and health checks of the operating system structure.
- Maintains disaster recovery configurations for Linux systems, performs annual disaster recovery test for these platforms and maintains disaster recovery documentation and procedures in support of these systems.
- Maintains security configuration management software, hardware system/component controls and documentation/procedures in accordance with the organization.
- Performs performance data collection, analysis, and tuning of the operating system.
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years of Unix Administration experience, preferably with Redhat.
- Working knowledge of VMware for Redhat vmguest build, clone, snapshot, and general maintenance.
- Working knowledge of KVM and Redhat virtualization build and configuration.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure to deploy, patch, maintain new Linux virtual machines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shell scripting would be preferable.
- Working knowledge of Redhat Satellite desirable.
