University Professor of Functional Genomics and Molecular Neurobiology

About the role

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) invites applications for the position of University Professor of Functional Genomics and Molecular Neurobiology at the Institute of Developmental Biology and Neurobiology (Faculty of Biology), beginning at the earliest date possible. Salary grade W 2 LBesG; position is civil servant (tenured).

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead an independent, internationally visible research program in functional genomics and molecular neurobiology sustained by third-party funding.
• Collaborate within the Faculty of Biology, the University Medical Centre, the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), and participate in current and future research consortia.
• Teach practical and theoretical courses in genetics, molecular biology, and neurobiology at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, with an increasing share of courses taught in English.
• Teaching is conducted in English and, in basic Bachelor modules, in German; German language skills must be acquired within five years of appointment.
• Participate in academic service and contribute to the university’s leadership and mentoring culture.

Requirements

• Doctorate and outstanding academic achievements.
• Strong expertise in genetics and molecular biology, including application to the nervous system.
• Internationally recognised expertise and a strong track record of securing external funding.
• Proficiency in English and German; German language skills must be acquired within five years of appointment.
• Cooperative, team-oriented and proactive work attitude; strong communication skills; willingness to assume responsibility.
• Commitment to close personal mentoring of students and strong campus presence.
