About the Role

The Principal Scientist develops research strategies and focuses on the development of new technologies, methods, and strategies in partnership with Principal Investigators. This role is reserved for a high-level contributor who manages large-scale projects and provides scientific and clinical research expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Develops research strategies and focuses on the development of new technologies, methods, and strategies in partnership with Principal Investigators.
  • Manages large-scale, multidisciplinary projects and provides direction in a specific area of expertise.
  • Builds research collaborations.
  • Designs and conducts high-quality scientific or clinical research.
  • Analyzes emerging trends in scientific and technical advances and incorporates them into current laboratory research.
  • Generates new scientific concepts and procedures.
  • Oversees the management of research data, data analysis, and interpretation of results/findings for laboratory projects.
  • Oversees the translation of research discoveries into meaningful changes in scientific and clinical practices.
  • Publishes as first author or co-author for multi-laboratory or multi-institutional research projects or in high-impact interdisciplinary journals.
  • May participate in the manuscript peer-review process as a member of an editorial board.
  • Serves as an invited speaker at external meetings and conferences.
  • Ensures laboratory programs operate efficiently.
  • Serves as a mentor and provides coaching to junior-level staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific area is required.
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Thirteen (13) years of relevant work experience is required with a Master's degree.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant work experience is required with a PhD.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $138,320 - $262,080 per year for the role of Principal Scientist - Genomic and Translational Neuroscience.
