About the role

The University Police Officer II position involves performing the duties of a Police Officer under general supervision. This includes participating in specialized unit activities, patrolling designated areas, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and maintaining public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and report safety hazards, detect violations, and identify wanted individuals.
  • Respond to calls for emergency service, evaluate situations, and take appropriate actions.
  • Perform crowd control, respond to emergency situations, and administer emergency medical aid.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations, collect and preserve evidence, and serve warrants and summonses.
  • Conduct surveillance, arrest, search, detain, transport, guard, and process violators.
  • Interact with the campus community, mediate disputes, and provide advice on legal rights and processes.
  • Participate in specialized unit activities such as crime prevention, recertification instruction, criminal investigations, or special events.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a Maryland Police Training Commission recognized or approved Police Academy Training program and successful completion of a Police Field Training program.
  • Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission.
  • A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.

  • Ability to operate emergency vehicles, firearms, self-defense tools, and criminal detection devices.
  • Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate restraint in stressful and dangerous situations.
  • Ability to lift, drag, and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to provide guidance and training to others.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations requiring physical stamina and force.
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently and quickly.
  • Ability to work in and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations.

Pay

$65,000

Schedule

Rotating shift, seven days a week.

Conditions of Employment

  • Medical inquiries and/or medical examinations.
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Essential employee status requiring 40 hours per week.
