University of Essex Doctoral Scholarships in Law

About the role

Essex Law School has six University of Essex Doctoral Scholarships available to support talented PhD students starting in 2017-18. As a member of one of the UK’s most diverse academic communities, you’ll join an active research cluster in either human rights, commercial law, or public law (which include areas such as criminal law, family law, or property law).

You’ll have access to research training and the support needed to design, research, and write your project. You’ll be co-supervised by two academics, and your progress is reviewed twice a year. With more than 70 academic members of staff, we have supervisors working with empirical and socio-legal, comparative, historical, and theoretical methods. We are home to several large-scale cross-disciplinary research projects and networks.

Requirements

In order to apply for research study at Essex, we require a 4,000-word research proposal.

Funding

• A doctoral stipend equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend (£14,553 in 2017-18).
• A training bursary of £250 per year.
• A fee waiver equal to the Home/EU fee (international students will need to pay the balance of their fees).
