About the role

The Centre for People’s Justice invites applications for two fully funded PhD studentships. These studentships are part of an AHRC-funded initiative aimed at advancing social justice research through a people-centred approach. The Centre seeks to improve law to improve lives by engaging with communities, groups, and publics to shape social justice issues and experiences.

Research Themes

  • Crafting Law – How Law Is Shaped
  • Performing Law – How Law Is Experienced
  • Legal Literacies and Legacies – How Law Is Understood and Remembered

Entry Requirements

  • Strong academic achievement in a relevant Master’s degree
  • Substantial relevant professional or practice-based experience demonstrating skills and knowledge equivalent to excellence in postgraduate-level study

Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a project proposal (up to 2,000 words), two referees, a short statement on how their project aligns with the Centre's aims and values, degree certificates and transcripts (if applicable), and evidence of relevant professional or practice-based experience (if applicable).

Funding Details

  • Stipend to support living costs at the UKRI level (currently £21,805 per annum)
  • University fees at the home rate (currently £5,238) for three years
