About the role

Potomac Bank is looking for a Universal Banker I who enjoys interacting with people, building lasting relationships, and gaining important financial skills. The role involves a broad range of teller transaction processing, referring bank products and services, and providing friendly customer service to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the public and address customer questions or problems.
  • Explain, promote, and refer bank products and services to customers.
  • Demonstrate a helpful, friendly attitude and commit to excellent customer service.
  • Serve as a model of excellent customer service to other employees.
  • Identify and refer retail products suitable to customer needs.
  • Handle customer complaints or questions and determine the best course of action.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees in other departments.
  • Receive and handle deposits of all types, ensuring proper endorsement on negotiable instruments.
  • Cash checks and pay out money after verifying signatures and customer balances.
  • Process checks, deposits, loan payments, night drop bags, mail deposits, and savings bonds.
  • Provide access to safety deposit boxes.
  • Enter customer transactions into the computer, record transactions, and issue computer-generated receipts.
  • Accurately balance currency, coin, and checks in the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Remove deposits from and count and balance cash in the automated teller system and night drop bags.
  • Assist with daily ATM balancing duties.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and judgment according to check cashing procedures.
  • Order client checks through Harland Clarke.
  • Issue cashier’s checks and money orders.
  • Complete Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and obtain independent verification of reports.
  • Override excessive drawer cash in Vertex up to the approved designated limit.
  • Open and maintain all consumer types of checking and savings accounts.
  • Complete domestic wire forms accurately.
  • Maintain proper amounts of currency and coin in the drawer per Potomac Bank-approved teller currency limits.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area and ensure all negotiables and confidential records are properly secured.
  • Understand the role in the event of a robbery and know proper post-robbery procedures.
  • Adhere to all bank policies, procedures, internal controls, and system access restrictions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–2 years of prior customer service experience.
  • Outgoing, service-oriented personality.
  • General knowledge of bank operations, excellent communication and customer service skills, and basic to advanced computer skills.
  • Pleasant personality with above-average knowledge of fundamental arithmetic.

  • Basic skills in operating a computer, printer, and copy machine.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including coin sorter and currency counter.
  • Ability to speak clearly and write legibly.
  • Ability to answer telephones and greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
