About the Role
Potomac Bank is looking for a Universal Banker I who enjoys interacting with people, building lasting relationships, and gaining important life financial skills. This role is responsible for a broad range of teller transaction processing, referring bank products and services, and providing friendly customer service to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Interact with the public and deal effectively with their questions or problems.
- Familiarize with the Bank’s products and services; look for opportunities to explain, promote, and refer products or services.
- Demonstrate a helpful, friendly attitude and commit to providing excellent customer service.
- Identify and refer retail products suitable to the customer’s needs.
- Handle customer complaints or questions and determine the best course of action to remedy the situation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, and officials in other departments.
- Receive and handle deposits of all types, ensuring proper endorsement on negotiable instruments.
- Cash checks and pay out money after verification of signatures and customer balances.
- Adhere to policies and regulations set forth in the Teller Operational Policy & Procedures Manual.
- Process checks, deposits, loan payments, night drop bags, mail deposits, and savings bonds.
- Provide access to safety deposit boxes.
- Enter customers' transactions into the computer to record transactions and issue computer-generated receipts.
- Accurately balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawer at the end of shift.
- Remove deposits from, and count and balance cash in, automated teller system and night drop bags.
- Assist with daily ATM balancing duties.
- Order client checks through Harland Clarke.
- Issue cashier’s checks and money orders.
- Complete Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and obtain independent verification of report.
- Override excessive drawer cash in Vertex up to approved designated limit.
- Open and maintain all consumer types of checking and savings accounts.
- Complete domestic wire forms accurately.
- Maintain proper amount of currency and coin in drawer per Potomac Bank approved teller currency limits.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area and ensure that all negotiables and confidential records are properly secured.
- Understand role in the event of a robbery, whether victim or bystander, and know proper post-robbery procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance that evokes the customer’s trust.
- Adhere to all bank policies and procedures and to internal controls and system access restrictions.

- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including coin sorter and currency counter.
- Ability to speak clearly and understandably and write legibly.
- Ability to answer telephones and greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 1-2 years of prior customer service experience.
- Outgoing, service-oriented personality.
- General knowledge of bank operations.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Basic to advanced computer skills.
