UNIV - Program Manager I - Department of Medicine: Division of Pulmonary

Serve as Program Manager for the Thoracic Oncology Research Group (TORG) within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. This position provides technical and clinical oversight for all research operations, including studies investigating lung cancer screening, detection, evaluation, and disparities in cancer care. Supervise 10+ research coordinators and oversee trial operations at 6 MUSC locations across South Carolina, as well as expansion to MUSC’s Regional Hospital Network (RHN) sites.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary point of contact for industry sponsors and federal grant officers regarding budget negotiation, contract negotiation, and project start-up. Develop and maintain tracking systems for proposals, start-up progress, and project activation to prevent delays.
• Oversee subject screening, recruitment, data entry, data management, and study-level visits. Submit regulatory documents to agencies and grant partners during start-up, monitoring visits, audits, and reporting.
• Serve as liaison between MUSC and sponsors during study start-up, perform feasibility assessments, and manage regulatory submissions for multi-site studies, including travel to SC sites and potential out-of-state travel.
• Supervise 10+ coordinators across 6 MUSC locations (Charleston, Florence, Lancaster, Chester, Columbia, Kershaw). Travel between sites to oversee operations, provide training, and support coordinators.
• Promote research at MUSC’s RHN sites by collaborating with physicians, clinic staff, and communities.
• Oversee operations of the MUSC Lung Cancer and Lung Cancer Screening Biorepository and Multi-Cancer Early Detection Biorepository, including supply management, recruitment, enrollment goals, and sample distribution governance.
• Reconcile study spending with budget reports, review accounts with the finance team, and perform internal financial audits. Ensure accurate personnel effort allocation and billing for all TORG studies.
• Serve as primary point of contact for TORG grant submissions, including authorship of key documents, budget generation, and compliance with federal guidelines. Lead grant teams to meet submission deadlines.
• Guide contract implementation with participating institutions and collaborate with interdepartmental research teams.
• Prepare and submit quarterly/annual reports, IRB renewal reports, monthly accrual reports, and manuscripts. Maintain accurate metrics and update Clinicaltrials.gov for all studies.
• Represent TORG at Hollings Cancer Center meetings, complete submission documents for study prioritization, and oversee NCI-compliant accrual documentation and enrollment metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant program experience.
• Proven track record of detail-orientation and high accuracy.
• Proficiency in computer data management software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, and exercise judgment and discretion.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.

Pay

$66,400.00 - $92,900.00 - $119,500.00 annually.

Schedule

40 hours per week.
