Job Duties

  • Research – Essential (35%): To develop and conduct, within the context of the funded projects, research in consultation with, and under the supervision of Dr. Norris. Individuals will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments relevant to the project.
  • Mentorship – Essential (25%): To assist in training of graduate students and other laboratory personnel. We anticipate that a successful candidate for this position will be able to mentor at least 2 graduate students who are currently on this project. This includes having one on one meetings with them to go over raw datasets, help with trouble shooting and experimental design and facilitate analyzing data. This mentorship will also be extended to undergraduate and high school students who intern or visit the lab.
  • Publishations – Essential (15%): To draft manuscripts for publication in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals and to present work at local, national and/or international conferences.
  • Grants – Essential (15%): To work closely with PI on developing research grant proposals for the laboratory and to apply for postdoctoral fellowship awards from the NIH, foundations, and/or from other internal or external sources of funding.
  • Documentation – Essential (10%): To maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records. This includes inputting data into our electronic laboratory notebooks (LabArchives and Box) for all Norris lab investigators to access within the confines of MUSC.

  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 15 lbs. a distance of five (5) floors and to outlying buildings. (Frequent)
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous)
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous)
