Postdoctoral Fellow in Skeletal Biology, Bioinformatics, and Regenerative Medicine

About the role

The Embree Lab at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join an NIH-funded research program focused on skeletal biology, osteoarthritis, pain biology, joint function, and regenerative medicine. The ideal candidate will have a PhD, MD/PhD, DDS/PhD, DMD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, with preferred expertise in bioengineering, developmental/stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, bioinformatics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to cutting-edge research projects that integrate mouse genetics, large-animal models, biomaterials, single-cell and spatial sequencing, and bioinformatics.
  • Undertake experiments and data analysis to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing joint development, degeneration, pain behaviors, and functional outcomes.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to advance the understanding of joint health and develop innovative solutions for joint disorders.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD/PhD, DDS/PhD, DMD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Demonstrated record of scientific productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and/or programming languages such as R or Python is desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Talented and highly motivated individual with a passion for research in skeletal biology, osteoarthritis, pain biology, joint function, and regenerative medicine.
  • Strong background in bioengineering, developmental/stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of scientific achievement, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and/or programming languages such as R or Python is advantageous.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence and mentorship.

Skills
