About the role

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Clinical Microbiologist with 2 to 10+ years of experience. Newly certified or eligible candidates will also be considered. The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a busy, full-service laboratory serving the MUSC hospital and additional affiliated hospitals in the state.
• Be proficient in interpreting results for techniques used in the clinical work-up of infectious diseases, including molecular and classical methods.
• Develop, validate, and implement new tests, and provide clinical guidance and scientific advice to other healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with clinicians and researchers, and serve as a resource to technologists at the bench.
• Instruct medical students, train pathology residents and fellows, and participate in the academic mission of the Pathology Department.
• Foster collaborative relationships with laboratory and quality/safety teams to ensure quality services in clinical microbiology.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in microbiological or clinical laboratory sciences with board certification/eligibility from the American Board of Medical Microbiology; or M.D. or D.O. with board certification/eligibility from the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology (or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology) with subspecialty board certification/eligibility in Medical Microbiology.
• Unrestricted South Carolina medical license or eligibility for South Carolina medical licensure for physician candidates.
