About the role
The MUSC Cytogenomics Laboratory provides comprehensive oncological and constitutional testing services including karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), chromosomal microarray analysis and specialty liquid/solid tumor molecular testing.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent patient care and serve as a resource to technologists at the bench.
- Foster collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers.
- Participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
- Communicate effectively with medical and graduate students, pathology residents, and fellows.
- Teach medical and graduate students, and train pathology residents and fellows.
- Participate in the ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship training program.
Requirements
- PhD with ABMGG certification (or eligibility) in Cytogenetics and/or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.
- MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
- At least two years of experience in Cytogenetics or Genomics.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.
Qualifications
- Academically oriented candidate with 2 or more years of post-fellowship experience; recent graduates will be considered.
- Current fellow.
- Advanced practical, diagnostic, and interpretive skills in constitutional and oncological cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and next generation sequencing.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in new molecular genomic and genetic test development, validation, implementation and quality control.
- Excellent communicator with a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to patient care.
Skills
- Proficient in advanced practical, diagnostic, and interpretive skills in constitutional and oncological cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and next generation sequencing.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in new molecular genomic and genetic test development, validation, implementation and quality control.
- Willing to participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
- Excellent communicator with a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to patient care.
- Active participant in the ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship training program.
