UNIV- Open Rank- Cytogenomics Director - Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine

About the role

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an academically oriented Cytogenetics / Genomics (“Cytogenomics”) Laboratory Director with 2 to 10+ years of experience. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a busy laboratory service, which includes constitutional and somatic testing.
• Current methodologies include cytogenetics, FISH, SNP microarray, and NGS.
• Proficient in the review of data and interpretation of results for those techniques employed in the clinical work-up of cases for precision oncology and clinical genetics.
• Knowledge and experience in new molecular genomic and genetic test development, validation, and implementation within a CAP accredited laboratory.
• Foster collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers and serve as a resource to technologists at the bench.
• Instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents and fellows, and actively participate in the academic mission of the Pathology Department and NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center programs.
• Play a key educational role in the Department's ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Molecular Genetic Pathology.
• Collaborate with the Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology teams including their trainees.

Requirements

• PhD with American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certification (or eligibility) in Cytogenetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.
• MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
• At least two years of experience in Cytogenetics or Genomics, with eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.

Qualifications

Skills

• Experience in developing, validating, and implementing new molecular genomic and genetic tests.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, researchers, and technologists.
• Strong teaching and mentoring skills, particularly in medical students, pathology residents, and fellows.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Schedule

40 hours per week.
