Patient care services

  • Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, and satellite locations.
  • Focus patient care service responsibilities on assigned specialties.
  • Conduct gross descriptions, take photographs of specimens when necessary, perform tissue sampling, conduct microscopic examinations of surgical specimens, report findings, and verify coding diagnoses in a timely manner (when applicable).
  • Perform Frozen Section diagnoses in a timely manner (when applicable).
  • Perform and report autopsies in a timely manner (when applicable).

Job Responsibilities

  • 24-hour call coverage according to assigned division(s) (when applicable).
  • Participate in educational activities for pathology residents and fellows, medical students, and collaborative research opportunities.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services to ensure JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.

Working Environment

  • Mainly performed in a hospital environment.
  • Requires high levels of citizenship and professionalism.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
  • Desirable additional Board certifications.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong general knowledge in Surgical Pathology, including intraoperative evaluations.
  • Knowledge of Pathology Subspecialties including hematopathology, anatomic pathology, and laboratory Medicine, according to assignment.
  • Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
  • Experience with quality improvement methods, tools, and measurements to improve work processes using a team-based model.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards such as JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
  • Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses as definitive in patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledge of hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure, and the use of universal precautions.
