Role Description Unity Catalog Business Definitions Analyst Hartford CT Hybrid Engagement type Staff augmentation detailoriented processdriven execution with crossfunctional coordination CONTEXT CURRENT STATE Unity Catalog serves as the governance backbone for Polaris 20 the authoritative layer for data definitions ownership lineage and access control Populating it with accurate agreedupon business definitions is a prerequisite for Gold layer certification and for business users to trust and selfserve from the platform We are currently in a catchup phase actively collecting business definitions across domains The current process routes definition requests and approvals through Excel templates which are then manually uploaded into Unity Catalog This approach has received feedback that it is cumbersome and not userfriendly creating friction for the business function teams who need to provide and validate definitions and slowing overall population velocity Multiple workstreams are running in parallel each with their own domain owners data stewards and timelines Coordinating these workstreams consistently and driving them to completion requires dedicated detailoriented bandwidth Our business goal is to have unity catalog populated for all existing data sets by end of Q3 There will also be ongoing work as we continue to onboard new datasets and want to collect definitions in tandem with requirements SCOPE OF WORK The Unity Catalog Business Definitions Analyst will own the endtoend process of collecting validating and uploading business definitions while improving the experience for participating business stakeholders Core activities include Process improvement Process improvement Assess current Excelbased collection process and identify friction points Design and implement a more intuitive intake experience for business stakeholders eg improved templates guided forms or lightweight tooling Document the endtoend definition collection review approval and upload workflow Workstream coordination Workstream coordination Maintain a clear status tracker across all active domain workstreams Comm Ops Finance Marketing Talent and others Proactively follow up with domain owners and data stewards to keep definitions moving through review and approval Escalate blockers and surface progress to program leadership on a regular cadence Unity Catalog population Unity Catalog population Execute uploads of validated business definitions into Unity Catalog with accuracy and consistency Maintain quality standards no duplicate definitions consistent formatting correct ownership attribution Validate that uploaded definitions are correctly surfaced and searchable in the catalog Stakeholder enablement Stakeholder enablement Run working sessions with business function teams to elicit and clarify definitions Act as a consistent helpful point of contact for business contributors reducing confusion and increasing participation IDEAL PROFILE Experience with data governance metadata management or data catalog tooling Unity Catalog highly preferred Extremely detailoriented accuracy in data entry definition formatting and tracking is nonnegotiable Strong process orientation able to map improve and execute a repeatable workflow across multiple concurrent workstreams Excellent stakeholder communication and followthrough comfortable working with nontechnical business users to elicit and validate definitions Comfortable working in Excel and light data tooling Unity Catalog experience a plus but not required Prior experience in a fastpaced program environment with multiple parallel workstreams is strongly preferred Other Details Variable Compensation: This position includes a bonus or variable payout component based on individual and organizational performance. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, performance and internal equity.
