About the role
The Unit Tech/Monitor Tech is responsible for the organization and clerical activities of the nursing unit, reporting directly to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and communicates ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered, and surgical patients.
- Collaborates with nursing assistants, nurses, and OB techs to maintain unit cleanliness, including cleaning equipment for patient use.
- Stocks medication rooms, infant cribs, and epidural carts with supplies as needed.
- Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Performs unit tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer and clerical skills.
- Gathers and distributes clinical data as assigned.
- Orders supplies and maintains an orderly nurses' station.
- Documents legibly according to hospital policy.
- Uses equipment (printer, computer, telephone, fax machine) appropriately.
- Actively participates in the implementation of the Performance Improvement (PI) plan.
- Assists with ordering and organizing supplies.
- Implements the unit PI plan and demonstrates awareness of National Patient Safety Goals.
- Makes suggestions for improved operations and follows hospital/department safety policies.
- Responds appropriately to cultural variables in interactions with professionals and patients.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Competency in technology and computers, especially for roles involving patient charting.
- Ability to perform shift work as required.
Physical Demands
- Work involves sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Minimal bending, stooping, and lifting required.
- Work environment may be physically confining.
- Normal hearing or use of adaptive hearing devices required.
- Visual acuity necessary for various tasks.
- Ability to sit and use a PC for long periods.
- Good manual dexterity for keyboard activities.
