Location: Barnes-Jewqish Hospital
Schedule: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM. Every 3rd weekend and rotating Holiday's.
Department: The PCU is a surgical progressive care unit supporting a patient population of acutely ill surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care and monitoring. This unit primarily cares for post-op patients admitted to the Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT/Plastics Surgery and Ortho-micro Surgery teams. Secondary, this unit manages critical care needs for patients admitted to the Trauma/ACCS/Geriatric Trauma Surgery teams, Orthopedic-Spine/Recon/Hand etc. teams as well as Vascular Surgery and other overflow teams.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. 163PCU is a 19 bed surgical progressive care unit. The patient population is comprised of acutely ill surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care and monitoring. This unit primarily cares for post-op patients admitted to the Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT/Plastics Surgery and Ortho-micro Surgery teams. Role Purpose

The Unit Secretary performs clerical duties supporting the operations of the patient care team.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the clinical operations by providing customer service and clerical support.
  • Transcribes physician orders as appropriate with close attention to detail.
  • Notifies appropriate nurse when STAT orders are written or when coordinating tests and procedures.
  • Communicates new orders to the healthcare team as appropriate.
