Unit Secretary - Med/Surg - Full Time Days

Responsibilities
- Assists assigned patients in activities, treatments, procedures, and tests under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or other designated individuals, in accordance with state and local laws and institutional nursing policies.
- Assistance: Performs and aids the physician and nurse with a variety of treatments and patient care procedures.
- Communication: Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor and provides a general report on all patients at the end of each shift. Reports vital signs accurately and in a timely manner.
- Documentation: Observes, reports, and records patient care, symptoms, treatments, and reactions following approved policies and procedures.
- In-service: Assists and participates in in-service education.
- Patient Area Maintenance: Maintains a clean environment in patient rooms and work area.
- Patient Observation: Notifies RN of changes in patient condition in a timely manner and documents appropriately.
- Personal Care: Performs and/or assists patients with personal care activities, such as baths, showers, skin and hair care, and oral hygiene. Provides specific patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse or other designated individuals.
- Teaching: Contributes to patient and family teaching while performing procedures as instructed.
- Other Duties: Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operations and patient care. Completes other duties as assigned and demonstrates flexibility with job responsibilities in all areas. Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Requirements
- Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course.
- Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting.
Pay
Minimum starting rate of $18.65 per hour. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package. The base compensation determined at the time of the offer may vary based on factors including labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding.
