About the role

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Unit Secretary in the Inpatient Rehab department. You will act as a central information source for physicians and other healthcare professionals while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Under the leadership of the Manager and/or designee, you will provide clerical support to assist in the delivery of quality care to patients, including transcription processing of physician orders, serving as a reception agent, and facilitating the timely and accurate flow of information to appropriate points of service.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the values and mission of Ingalls Memorial Hospital and demonstrate clinical excellence and service.
  • Act as a strong patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper telephone function and etiquette; screen and coordinate incoming and outgoing calls, record and report pages and messages.
  • Answer call lights promptly, communicate patient needs to appropriate personnel, and follow up on patient requests to ensure response.
  • Transcribe medical staff orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accurate processing of orders and charges from admission through hospitalization.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of the patient’s medical record and all unit records; assemble the medical record in the proper sequence and check that all forms are stamped.
  • Identify outlier reports and forms and note on audit tool for completion.
  • Participate in inventory ordering and the distribution of clerical supplies, patient forms, and disposition of outdated forms.
  • Monitor discharge activities related to the billing process.

Requirements

  • Unit Secretary/Clerical experience, background and/or training.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to function effectively in an extended team environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflict effectively.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback.
  • Computer literate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Terminology background.
  • Transcription experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word & Excel.
