About the Role
Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them in person or on the telephone and answering or referring inquiries. Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Ensures smooth patient flow and maintains clinic operations by managing schedules, patient accounts, and office inventory.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ensure proper flow of patients throughout the clinic.
- Perform insurance verifications on a daily basis.
- Perform patient check-in and check-out, instruct patients on payment requirements, and collect all copays and payments due at the time of service.
- Prepare next day’s charts to ensure proper referral and incoming medical information has been obtained.
- Answer all incoming calls and route them to proper extensions.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Notify provider/nurse of patient's arrival and review service delivery compared to schedule.
- Remind providers of service delays.
- Comfort patients by anticipating anxieties, answering questions, and maintaining the reception area.
- Maintain patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Obtain revenue by recording and updating financial information and collecting patient charges.
- Maintain business office inventory and equipment by checking stock, placing orders, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs.
- Respond to emergencies to help patients in distress.
- Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Follow policies and procedures and report needed changes.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General office work experience.
- Computer experience.
- Medical terminology (preferred).
- Organizational and advanced typing skills.
- Strong communication skills, both in-person and via telephone.
- Ability to act as a liaison between patients and physicians.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work within established policies, procedures, and practices.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand intermittently for 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including telephone and computer keyboard.
- Works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits, and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder and regularly lifts and/or carries up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
