Department Overview
The St. Paul 6th floor is a 26-bed pediatric medical/surgical unit caring for children from infants to young adults with acute and chronic medical conditions. The team specializes in diabetes, respiratory conditions, surgical post-operative care (with a focus on urological surgery), and medical stabilization for children with eating disorders through the Center for the Treatment of Eating Disorders. Patients have an average length of stay ranging from days to several weeks. Care is provided by interdisciplinary teams including child life, social work, integrative medicine, dietitians, case managers, and other specialists. The unit fosters teamwork, open communication, learning, and professional growth.
About the Role
The Unit Operations Coordinator is a pivotal frontline role providing exemplary customer service to families, staff, providers, and visitors both in-person and by phone. This individual answers questions promptly and accurately, problem-solves as needed, and serves as the first point of contact for unit phone calls. Responsibilities include arranging deliveries to patient rooms, directing visitors, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and modeling service excellence.
The role acts as a key liaison to other departments, supports patient care, provides administrative assistance, and serves as the unit’s technology resource. The position may require floating to other hospital departments based on need.
Responsibilities
- Provide exemplary customer service to families, staff, providers, and visitors in-person and by phone.
- Answer questions warmly, promptly, and correctly; problem-solve as needed.
- Serve as the first response to phone calls into the unit.
- Arrange deliveries to patient rooms and direct visitors to their destinations.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming environment at all times, modeling service excellence.
- Act as a liaison to other departments and provide tools/resources for interdisciplinary teams.
- Support patient care and provide administrative assistance for the unit.
- Serve as the unit’s technology resource and coach others on hospital technology systems.
- Float to other hospital departments as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma preferred.
- 1 year of experience in a patient care setting preferred.
- Outstanding professional and positive customer service skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a positive attitude.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, hospital technology systems).
- Competency with basic medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
- Self-directed, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Pay
The posted salary represents a market-competitive range based on benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries are based on full-time employment (40 hours per week) and prorated for part-time positions. Individual pay rates consider market indicators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, internal equity, and organizational needs.

This position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions requiring night, weekend, or on-call work may qualify for shift differentials or premium pay.
