Preferred Capital Management is looking to hire a Unit Manager for a sow unit near Goodhue, MN. In this role, you will have direct responsibility for all daily operations of a 3,200-sow unit, including pig production, staff management, and unit upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Oversees all areas of personnel management:
- Recruits, hires, and disciplines all production personnel.
- Manages labor budget for the sow unit.
- Trains and evaluates all employees.
- Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules.
- Ensures payroll and other data requirements are completed timely.
- Enforces a culture of safety and animal welfare.
- Enforces the bio-security program without exception.
- Resolves personnel conflicts.
- Communicates expectations of the sow unit.
- Meets regularly with crew to ensure good communication and teamwork.
- Encourages further education of employees.
- Oversees all areas of production:
- Monitors farrowing, pregnancy checks, and breeding expectations.
- Regulates environmental controls for the unit, including alarm systems.
- Manages feeding systems and strategies.
- Coordinates health program with veterinarian.
- Monitors medication usage in the unit.
- Monitors semen usage and orders.
- Monitors gilt flow plan.
- Manages and communicates wean schedule.
- Maintains communication with PCM point persons.
- Meets with PCM and ownership as needed:
- Understands and implements expectations of the unit (production, personnel, and financial).
- Makes fiscally responsible decisions.
- Supervises maintenance of the facility and upkeep of the site.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent related experience.
- Leadership experience in a swine or livestock role.
- Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented.
- Ability to read and understand work procedures, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to interact effectively with employees, veterinarians, owners, vendors, and all levels of the organization.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work every third weekend.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lead or management experience on a farm of 2,500+ sows or equivalent related experience.
Pay
$60,000.00 per year
Schedule
Monday through Friday, with every third weekend required.
