About the role
The Unit Forester II position is located in Chico, CA within the Butte Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).
Responsibilities
- Manage forest resources and implement forest management plans.
- Supervise forest operations and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Conduct inspections and assessments to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate wildfire threats and promote forest health.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address community concerns and improve forest management practices.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required by regulatory bodies and internal policies.
Requirements
- Registered Professional Forester License.
- Medical Clearance.
- Annual Medical Clearance for Respiratory Protection Equipment.
- Completion of CAL FIRE Firefighter Academy (FFA) and Company Officer Academy (COA) training during probationary period.
- Maintain the Arduous Fitness Standard in accordance with department policy.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in forestry, range management, or a closely related natural resource field. - Five years of progressively responsible experience in forest management or related field. - Demonstrated knowledge and experience in forest ecology, silviculture, and forest management practices. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Pay
The starting salary for this position is $9,428.00 - $12,226.00 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
