Unit Forester

About the role

The Unit Forester II position is located in Chico, CA within the Butte Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

Responsibilities

  • Manage forest resources and implement forest management plans.
  • Supervise forest operations and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to identify potential hazards and risks.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate wildfire threats and promote forest health.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address community concerns and improve forest management practices.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by regulatory bodies and internal policies.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Forester License.
  • Medical Clearance.
  • Annual Medical Clearance for Respiratory Protection Equipment.
  • Completion of CAL FIRE Firefighter Academy (FFA) and Company Officer Academy (COA) training during probationary period.
  • Maintain the Arduous Fitness Standard in accordance with department policy.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in forestry, range management, or a closely related natural resource field. - Five years of progressively responsible experience in forest management or related field. - Demonstrated knowledge and experience in forest ecology, silviculture, and forest management practices. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Pay

The starting salary for this position is $9,428.00 - $12,226.00 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule
