Unit Desk Clerk - Emergency Department

About the Role

Geisinger offers a per diem Unit Desk Clerk position with market-leading pay rates, shift differentials up to $3 for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of clerical duties in a patient care environment.
• Assure appropriate bed assignment.
• Ensure timely notification of tele-tracking upon discharge.
• Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards.
• Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards.
• Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
• Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
• Communicate patient-related information promptly to the appropriate care team member.
• Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit.
• Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
• Obtain and order supplies.
• File forms and reports according to standards.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment.
• Assist with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
• Assist with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
• Access non-controlled medications storage and supply areas to transport medications as necessary.
• Schedule emergency OR surgeries when the need arises.
• Comply with all job-specific obligations and organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required)
• Basic Life Support Certification
