About the role

Acknowledging the importance of patient- and family-centered care, this position involves performing various clerical duties such as data entry into the Hospital Information System to support unit operations. Additionally, they assist in managing unit flow, supporting patients and medical staff, and coordinating off-unit testing and appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in accordance with Jefferson’s values.
  • Creates an inclusive environment that respects patients, their families, and designated care partners.
  • Supports the interprofessional team, patients, and families by communicating effectively and respecting their preferences, priorities, and cultural beliefs.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Charge Nurse to address unit needs.
  • Maintains electronic patient bed system for admission/discharge management, assigns admissions, completes staffing assignments, and requests patient transport as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the Charge Nurse to coordinate patient appointments/testing within the acute care setting, including transportation coordination.
  • Processes medical orders to facilitate the implementation of the medical regime for patient care.
  • Performs clerical tasks to support the department, including maintaining medical records to ensure complete and organized patient information.
  • Organizes the work environment for effective and efficient department operations.
  • Collaborates with unit leadership and supply chain to support inventory needs.
  • Works collaboratively with unit-based clinical staff and other departments to coordinate off-unit testing and appointments.
  • Participates in Unit Committee meetings, in addition to staff meetings.
  • Maintains the tube station for incoming and outgoing items and dispenses accordingly.
  • Responds actively during unit emergency codes, calling the emergency response dispatcher, assisting the team in gathering equipment, troubleshooting equipment failures, and requesting repairs.

Qualifications

  • Related secretarial and computer experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective communication skills, understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to engage patients and families in their health and care.
  • Data entry experience preferred.
