About the role

As a HIM Clerk at Alaska Regional Hospital, you will play a crucial role in the organization's commitment to providing excellent patient care. Your responsibilities include:

  • Before the organization of the file area, retrieving and filing of paper patient records within the HIM Department.
  • Retrieving and reconciling medical records from ancillary departments and nursing units.
  • Copying medical records.
  • Processing loose reports.
  • Training physicians on Portal/Care.
  • Reviewing and obtaining documentation for unbilled accounts.
  • Processing accounts assigned to facility HPF work queues.
  • Scanning and indexing late documentation received in the HIM department.
  • Retrieving discharged medical records from various nursing units and ancillary departments.
  • Assisting in reconciling retrieved medical records against patient discharge listings to ensure receipt of all records within twenty-four (24) hours of discharge/visit.
  • Scanning and indexing loose reports/documents that are identified as critical to coding.
  • Pulling 60 facility paper medical records per hour as requested by customer(s).
  • Filing and/or re-filing 120 facility paper medical records per hour as required.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of specialty equipment and tools: copier, microfiche reader, fax machine.
  • One-year medical office or hospital experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in the handling of patient health information and/or medical records is strongly preferred.
  • One year experience in an office environment preferred.
