Unit Clerk Nurse Aide - 3S Telemetry

Department: 3 South • Scheduled bi-weekly hours: 72 • Daily work times: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

About the role

Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs receptionist and secretarial duties on the assigned unit, meeting the communication needs of patients, families, departmental staff, and medical staff. Supports nursing staff by performing specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean work environment while preserving patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and respecting patient rights.

Responsibilities

• Performs purposeful hourly rounding including pain, position, personal needs, and possessions.
• Promptly answers telephone and call lights in a polite manner, relaying pertinent information to appropriate staff.
• Assists nursing staff with patient care by making beds, giving baths, passing waters, feeding patients, providing oral care, recording accurate intake and output, assisting with mobilization and ambulation, obtaining daily weights, performing bedside glucose testing, and taking vital signs.
• Greets patients and families upon arrival to the nursing unit and assists in transporting patients to and from other units and test areas.
• Ensures all rooms and work areas are clean and tidy, including patient rooms, clean and soiled utility rooms, and properly stores equipment such as IV poles, suction machines, and commodes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide training program, or 6 months of experience as a Nursing Assistant in a healthcare facility, or completion of fundamentals of nursing if enrolled in a Nursing program.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current State of Michigan CNA certification.
• Previous data entry experience.

Schedule

Full-time. Selected candidate will work weekends 2 and 4 of the 28-day schedule, as well as the Holiday B rotation.
