Union Truck Shop Apprentice Technician
About the role
This is an entry-level position focused on learning preventative maintenance and routine mechanical repairs in a shop environment on customer equipment, including transmissions, transmission components, and subassemblies, under the guidance of senior Transmission Service Shop Technicians and Group Leaders.
Starting pay is $27 per hour, with quarterly increases. After successfully completing the 12-month apprentice program, the employee graduates to Shop Helper (C Rate) at $39.71 per hour. All technician positions beyond the apprentice level are Union positions with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 15C, and the employee will join the Union upon becoming a Helper.
Responsibilities
- Learn basic parts, processes, and maintenance techniques as instructed by senior Shop Technicians.
- Work with senior Shop Technicians to troubleshoot and diagnose routine problems with customer equipment.
- Retrieve parts and supplies for senior Shop Technicians.
- Learn to complete work orders and time sheets legibly, accurately, and on time.
- Assist senior Shop Technicians on larger jobs.
- Support day-to-day shop operations, such as cleaning parts and bays, and properly disposing of fluids.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED); no prior experience necessary.
- Recent graduates of Diesel Tech schools preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude required.
- Basic computer navigation and utilization skills.
Pay
Starting at $27 per hour, with quarterly increases. After completing the 12-month apprentice program, pay increases to $39.71 per hour as a Shop Helper (C Rate).
