Union Refrigeration Technician

Join our facilities team at Rush as an Union Refrigeration Technician, where you'll be responsible for maintaining critical climate control and refrigeration systems that directly impact our operations. In this role, you'll leverage your extensive technical expertise to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex HVAC and refrigeration system issues across our large-scale facility. Working independently, you'll ensure optimal performance of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration equipment while upholding JLL and Rush's commitment to operational excellence. What your day-to-day will look like
- Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls and equipment using proper testing instruments while working from technical drawings and manuals
- Diagnose and resolve electrical component issues on chillers, rooftop units, fan systems, and other HVAC equipment
- Maintain and repair commercial refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, freezers, walk-in cold rooms, and ice machines
- Rebuild and repair pumps, compressors, and related mechanical components to manufacturer specifications
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and document all service activities, repairs, and system performance
- Respond to emergency service calls and coordinate with other facility personnel to minimize operational disruptions
- Ensure all work complies with safety protocols, building codes, and JLL/Rush policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial refrigeration equipment (refrigerators, freezers, walk-in cold rooms, ice machines)
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems in large commercial or institutional facilities (100,000+ square feet or equivalent complexity)
- EPA Universal Certification or equivalent refrigeration handling certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing HVAC electrical components and control systems
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in large facility environments
- Experience working with pneumatic, electric, and electronic building control systems
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals
- Physical ability to perform required maintenance tasks including lifting, climbing, and working in various environmental conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade school diploma or technical certification in HVAC/Refrigeration technology
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC)
- Familiarity with healthcare facility operations and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Knowledge of specialized HVAC equipment or controls systems
