Union Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Sanipac, a Waste Connections company in Eugene, OR, offers a steady, year-round position as a Union Diesel Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance on our fleet of 125 garbage trucks.

Schedule

• Full-Time: 4/10s (Monday–Friday, 1:30 PM to 12:00 AM)
• Occasional overtime required; additional overtime available

Pay

• Starting at $29.55+/hour (DOE)
• $2.00/hr additional for CDL holders or after CDL is obtained
• Paid CDL training provided

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on a fleet of 125 garbage trucks
• Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment
• Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software, documenting parts usage and repair times
• Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
• Perform diagnostics and repairs on engines, aftertreatment systems, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems (12V and CAN)
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
• Effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• 3+ years of experience in heavy truck equipment maintenance and repair
• Provide personal tools
• Class B CDL or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment
• Proficiency in vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair
• Ability to read and comprehend service and technical information in English

Conditions of Employment

• Must pass post-offer employment examinations, including background check, MVR check, and drug screen

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Extensive physical activity requiring strenuous work, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds
• Back, leg, arm, and shoulder strength required to safely climb in, on, and around vehicles for inspection and repair
• Ability to work in awkward, tight, or restricted spaces for extended periods, including sitting, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and moving from a supine position
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, requiring adherence to basic safety precautions
• Exposure to outside weather conditions, including frequent wet and/or humid environments, fumes, and vibration
• Moderate noise levels
